When you hear a commercial or a narration you are hearing an actor. Some people say Voice Overs are just talking and it's easy; it is not. Doing a voice over takes as much or more 'acting' than acting in a movie or TV show. This is true because actors in TV and Film have their voice, body and gestures to get their point across with the correct emotion; Voice Actors only have their voice. So, in order to make a compelling Voice Over, the Voice Actor must put all of his/her emotion into his/her voice. This results in really challenging and fun studio sessions. Some Voice Actors have been known to move their whole bodies during studio sessions like these well known Voice Actors/Actors below:
As you saw in the video, some of the Actors were running, talking with their arms and faces. A key part of becoming a successful Voice Actor is: not only taking Voice Over classes, but also taking regular Acting classes as well to learn how to move your body and 'act' to get the best final product of any copy you may encounter.
