Voice Over Demo

The demo is an essential part of any Voice Over hopefull's career. In the Voice Over industry, the demo is equivalent to a paper resume; so it is essential. Especially if you have not done so much work and you are looking for those first few jobs, the demo is the only way that potential clients can hear your 'sound.'Many people try to make a home made demo, because this is much cheaper. However, potential clients can tell the difference between a home made demo and a professional demo. It is expensive, which is why people avoid getting it made (it can cost anywhere from around 1 thousand to a couple thousand depending on the quality and name recognition of the person you get it made with). The reason it is worth doing (once you have the money), besides the audio quality benefit is that the producer (the person that directs you through the demo recording session) can recognize your strengths and cater the demo to what you are good at. That way when people listen to the demo, they will hear you at your best.
Where can I get a demo made? I got my demo and training from Voice Coaches, and they give you a website as well as CD's after recording, here is my website, but there are many places you can get it done. One way to find out where to get it done, is to check out the yellow pages and look for listings of professional audio studios and ask them if they make demo's for voice over talent. You can also look online and search for 'voice over demo production.' Where ever you choose to get your demo made, make sure that it is professional quality so that future clients take you seriously as soon as they hear your demo.
